I will always, always remember this lovely man for his kindness, I will never forget the morning I had just dropped my son off for his first ever day at Greentop and I was a bit upset walking back to the car, he came up behind me and said … “Mam – don’t you worry – no new child will ever leave without a smile at this school – I make sure of that” he will never know how much that meant to me. My son completely adored Alan, he lived for “looking after” his keys, he was never happier than when he was doing a job for Alan, he just had this amazing ability to make all children feel special. Such a loss to Greentop, he won’t ever be forgotten. Thoughts are with all his family x

  10. RIP ALAN You made Greentop what it is today and I thank you very much for that. Your love for everyone was great no one will ever match up to you.

A much well respected and helpful person always a pleasure to deal with. A smile and a chat was always available. Condolences to his family we have fond memoirs.

  12. Me and my Dad were good mates with Alan, I’d go as far to say that he was my Dad’s best mate! He loved his work and was proud of it too, you can tell that by the quality of the joinery around Green Top. Words can’t really express how much I’ll miss him, I’ve known him since I was 3 or 4 years old; as I’m sure everyone knows he was always willing to lend a helping hand, so I saw him quite often throughout the summer holidays helping my dad at Kirton Lane and vice versa.
My thoughts go out to Yvette, Janet, Jon, and all those at Green Top (both pupils and staff).

    • Hi. Do you know what year he started working working at greentop, ive know him for about 24 yrs, but never thought to ask when he became the caretaker.

      • Hi Martin,

I believe 31-32 years ago but haven’t had that confirmed.

        Thanks
