On 13th September it is Roald Dahl Story Day. To celebrate we are rolling out a whole school competition that we would love for you to get involved in.
What is your favourite Roald Dahl story? Who is your favourite character?
Can you design a poster, story spoon, story stone etc to show your favourite. The Reading Ambassadors will select their favourite from each year group and they will be displayed in our new reading library!

The children are loving their new White Rose Maths work books and have done brilliantly in our first sessions. For the first term we work in small adult led groups to complete the workbooks and the other children complete lab activities independently that are linked to the lesson objective. One of our outcomes last week was ‘Count objects from a larger amount’ and the children completed this super-cute activity.

Check out the fantastic work these little heroes have completed during our Hook Week. We had a little taster of the exciting things we will be learning about over the next term and made some fantastic arts and crafts to immerse our classroom. Our class mascot Juicy also began to visit children for sleepover’s…something the children look forward to immensely. Watch out for him coming to visit you soon! We were sad that we couldn’t hold our Family Learning as planned but we are working on a new date and will have the information for you as soon as we can.
We hope to see as many of you as we can tomorrow evening for our Parents and Carers Meeting where we will be sharing important and useful information to help the term run smoothly.

Starting this coming week the year 3 PE session is on Thursday afternoons. Year 3 will also be participating XP outdoors this term. This is on Tuesdays. Please ensure your child has the right change of clothes.

This week has been all about getting ourselves hooked into the learning that we are about to embark on throughout Autumn term … in particular, our exciting new expedition all about the Romans – Coming to Doncaster; Why Then, Why Now?
Children have enjoyed getting to grips with geography to find out where Rome is in the world and they have got stuck in to all of our new expedition books! In reading, we have explored the historical story book, Vlad and the Roman Triumph and we have been learning all about the Roman armies and their armour. We made our own helmets and designed our own shields, as well as making dolly peg soldiers. In maths, we learned about timelines and calendars, and we even found out about Roman numerals before linking these to the clock and having a go at making our own! We were amazed by the history of the Roman colosseum and had a go at sketching this as carefully as possible. Then, we wrapped up all our learning with an amazing dress-up and workshop day where we were able to impress our expert visitors with the knowledge we already had about the Romans and their invasions.
At home, why not ask us about the different designs on a Roman shield and what they represent? And, why was red the colour of their military?
Wowwee … what a fabulous Roman day we’ve had today in LKS2. A huge thank you to everyone who managed to dress up – your costumes looked AMAZINGGG!
Our visitors from Doncaster Heritage were fantastic and so knowledgeable … they held an assembly for us in the morning where we learned so many interesting facts. Did you know … the Romans used cobwebs to treat cuts and scrapes??? Then, children also had a chance to get hands-on with some real Roman artefacts and replicas, as well as asking lots of questions.
To finish the day off, we have enjoyed some Roman-themed arts and crafts alongside the Horrible Histories movie … what an awesome day!
On day 3, Class 7 learned about Martin Luther King jr and the impact he had on his community. We were inspired to write down the hopes and dreams we have for own community, for ourselves and those we care about!
On day 4, we dressed up as super heroes. We drew our heroes and we made the heroes that help us in our local community!
