Inclusion is central to everything we do at Green Top, and we know that the festive period can bring lots of excitement and lots of changes to routine. To support our children and families, we have added a range of Widgit visual resources to our Inclusion blog to help prepare children for the different events that may take place throughout December, both in school and at home.
These visuals can be used as a key word bank for children with communication and interaction differences, or simply as a supportive tool to help any child understand what to expect.
You will also find:
- A social story about “Why is school different in December?”
This explains upcoming events such as performances, nativities, non-uniform days and Christmas parties, helping children feel more prepared and confident about what is happening in school. - A social story about “Having a good Christmas Day”
This outlines what the day might look like at home, who children might see, what might happen and how they may be feeling. This is especially helpful for children who benefit from knowing routines or who may find big celebrations overwhelming.
We hope these resources make the festive season feel calmer, more predictable and more enjoyable for our families.
If you need any further support or would like advice on using the visuals with your child, please feel free to get in touch with your class teacher or Mrs Faulding (SENDCo) /Mrs Cook (Assistant SENDCo).
